Batu Caves
Malaysia is a country where culture meets wonder. On a rainy morning at the Batu Caves, I was stunned by the immense colorful limestone hill against the plum sky. The gold hue reflecting off Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war, left an unspoken feeling of enchantment. This Hindu shrine is such an essential component of the Hindu culture that worshippers are willing to hike 272 steps on a daily basis. I left Batu Caves wondering how the Malay people feel to know a 400 million-year-old treasure resides in their neighborhood.
